The Full Story
Scarlett's Story
Scarlett Renee Fountain was born on August 9, 2009, and brought pure joy into the lives of everyone who knew her. She was the beloved granddaughter of Lisa Fountain, the founder of Scarlett’s Closet. Full of light and laughter, Scarlett loved tea parties, twirling and dancing, playing with her baby dolls, and enjoying weekend sleepovers with her Meems and Pops, Lisa and her husband Mark.

Scarlett's Diagnosis
In late March of 2011, Scarlett began experiencing discomfort in her neck. Her pediatrician suspected a pulled muscle and prescribed physical therapy to begin on April 11th. But on Saturday, April 9th, Scarlett developed a fever and was taken to the emergency room. A CT scan revealed a mass in her neck, and she was urgently transferred to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta – Egleston.

A biopsy confirmed the mass was malignant, and further testing in Boston identified it as a rare and aggressive form of cancer. Treatment began immediately, but despite every effort made to save her, Scarlett passed away on Friday, May 13, 2011, at just 21 months old.

Scarlett's Impact
Though her time on earth was heartbreakingly short, Scarlett’s impact is immeasurable. Her memory lives on through the work of Scarlett’s Closet, a ministry founded in her honor to support families with children who are hospitalized. Scarlett’s life continues to shine as a beacon of love, faith, and compassion—touching more lives than many do in a lifetime.
